Here is the link to the first issue for the Mothers’ Milk Association of Wisconsin (MMAW) newsletter. The organization started here locally to provide babies with donated human milk (DHM). The process of donation is described in the newsletter. There are a variety of reasons why a baby would need donated milk; for example, premature infants, babies or mothers too sick to breastfeed. This life-saving food for babies means lower rates of infection and shorter hospital stays. More and more physicians are realizing the benefits of providing their littlest patients with DHM. Therefore, they are writing the prescriptions necessary to obtain the milk.
The phone number to find out more about milk donation here in Wisconsin with the MMAW is 608-333-4955.
Here also is a link to some articles from the LLLI website about human milk banking, along with mothers’ personal stories, both as donors and recipients of DHM.
